I am struggling to understand how Jonathan Toews did not score last night, because he was a man possessed. Every shift. All night. In a pre-season game. Leadership. Halleluiah! There is simply no substitute for love of the game. He was such a force that I spent half the game thinking, “He’s gonna score 40 this year easy.”
Other Hawks who had their best game of the pre-season last night: Marian Hossa, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Andrew Brunette, Michael Frolik, Bryan Bickell, Rusty Olesz, Marcus Kruger. And yes, the other Brandon— young Mr. Pirri. Good effort, lads. A round of golf claps are in order.
I wonder what Ray Emery did last summer. I mean, the way he stepped in for Jonas Hiller and guided the Ducks into the playoffs. And that was mere months ago. It’s only been two games from Ray, but decisions loom.
Game 2 of the Patrick Kane At Center Experiment was…inauspicious. Kane is not a behind the net forechecker. Discuss.
Overall, I thought last night’s game had a good beat, you could dance to it. Toews’ leadership translated to a level of urgency uncommon for a pre-season game, but welcome as the regular season approacheth.
