Bowman Needs Some Time In The Quiet Room

Dennis Wierzbicki-US PRESSWIRE

The outbreak of concussions that have been affecting the Chicago Blackhawks seems to have made its way to General Manager Stan Bowman.  A vicious hit to the head is the only explanation for Bowman thinking that giving Daniel Carcillo a 2 year extension is a good idea. This is a very stupid move.  Yes, Carcillo did have his moments where he looked like a decent hockey player but he is too selfish and too dumb to keep around.  His season was ended on a dirty and selfish play.  I was sure that was the last time we would ever see Carcillo in a Blackhawks sweater but I was dead wrong about that.  If this deal is a penny over 2 million dollars it will make it even worse.  If Jamal Mayers walks at the end of the year because the Hawks are keeping Carcillo this will be a huge mistake.  Mayers deserves to get at least one more year.  He brings the toughness and attitude the Hawks crave but he does it a smart and effective way and usually within the rule book.  Carcillo has a target on his back from both the referees and league officials for his history of dirty play.  I don’t like this move at all, especially if it costs the team Mayers and takes a roster spot away from one of our kids from Rockord who have more to offer.
