Season Review-  One word that can describe Bryan Bickell’s season is regression! Goals dropped from 17 to 9 Assistst dropped from 20 to 15 and +/- dropped from +6 to -3.  Every Major statistic fell from his first full NHL season in 2010-2011.  The biggest number though that jumps out is the hit total.  Last season he had 178 hits but this season it fell dramatically to 128.  Bickell seemed to be premiering for Ice Capades on some nights instead of being a physical force on the ice.  Coach Q must have finally got fed up with him and made his a healthy scratch in the middle of the season.  Bickell had a rebirth during the playoffs! He played on the best line the Hawks had during the Phoenix Coyote series being teamed with Dave Bolland and Andrew Shaw before suspension and Michael Frolik after.  He had 32 hits in the 6 games series and was the guy throwing his body around that he could have been all season long.  He had a great Game 2 scoring the lone power play goal of the series and the OT winner!  The real question is  whether he is satisfied in playing in the NHL or does Bickell want to improve and be the talented big man the Hawks need in areas like power play and physical enforcer instead of having likes of John Scott’s or Brandon Bollig gooning up ice time.

Contract- Bickell has on more year left on his contract for $550,000

Future- Bickell will start the season on the roster and it will be a big question mark on which Bickell will show up? the giant big turd that skated around the NHL for most of this season collecting a paycheck, or the Bickell that showed up ready to play and hit throughout the playoff series against the Coyotes.  I prefer the later.

Season Grade- D+ this would have been a failing grade if not for his good playoff run!

Let’s Go Hawks!!
