For the second straight season John Scott made the meatballs happy and most fans nuts!  For whatever reason, Coach Q loved to suit up John Scott way too much.  My problem wasn’t with just dressing Scott but it was not playing him when he did suit up.  Whether Scott was a forward or on defense, he never played a meaningful shift.  Q pretty much handicapped his team any time he put Scott in the lineup.  I didn’t have a problem with dressing Scott, my problem was his ice time when he did play.  He averaged less than 7 minutes a game.  If you are going to dress him, then play him.  If you can’t trust him on the ice, then don’t play him.  Some people were actually upset when the Blackhawks traded Scott to the New York Rangers.  There was a small outcry along the lines of “where will the Hawks protection come from?”   The truth is Scott is a one trick pony as a fighter, but no one wanted to fight him anymore.  Those who were dumb enough to challenge him usually got their face pounded in.  I’ve had the pleasure of meeting John Scott and he was a great guy.  If his hockey talent equaled his personality he would be a Hall of Famer, but he just doesn’t have much to offer on the ice.  I would love to have a beer with Scott I just don’t have a spot for him on my hockey team.
