Jimmy Hayes was called up on December 30th, two games before Andrew Shaw.  Both Hayes and Shaw were able to contribute right away.  Hayes’ production dropped off a bit but he still had a pretty good first go round in the NHL.  You have to be somewhat excited about a player who is 6-6 and is over 220 pounds.  The Blackhawks are in desperate need for some net presence and toughness.  Hayes has shown that he can provide both, but needs to be more consistent with both.  I would like to see Jimmy used more on the power next year.  A lot of people want Hayes to be the next Dustin Byfuglien.  I say why settle for mediocrity? I want Hayes to be better than Byfuglien.  Take away 2 playoff series against Vancouver and 1 versus the Sharks and Buff was a lazy player who under performed on a majority of nights.  If that’s what you want Hayes to become than you can keep him!

2011-2012 Final Grade: B-

Topics: Andrew Shaw, Chicago Blackhawks, Dustin Bufuglien, Jimmy Hayes
