What a year for Andrew Shaw! He was drafted in the 5th round of the draft in June and by January 5th, he was in the NHL.  He made a great first impression by being an assist short of the Gordie Howe hat trick in his debut versus Philadelphia. His season had many highs and lows.  The highs included 2 game winning goals and becoming a Twitter sensation.  The lows included being sent back down to Rockford after struggling and  of course his 3 game suspension during the playoffs.  Did Mike Smith embellish the hit? Yes he did, but hopefully Shaw learned a lesson about not hitting the goalie.  Shaw was a major overachiever and a pleasant surprise.  What he lacks in size he makes up with a pair of stones the size of grapefruits.  He has no fear and loves getting to the dirty areas of the ice.  He is a great forechecker as well.  He causes turnovers and draws penalties.  Getting under his opponent’s skin might be his best ability.  There is no reason why he won’t start the season in Chicago.  I don’t know if he can keep up his scoring production, but as long as he keeps up his energy and grit the Blackhawks should have a nice piece to their puzzle for years to come.
