As The Zach Turns
It’s time for another installment of the most popular hockey soap opera “As The Zach Turns”. Where is Zach Parise going to sign? Will he go home to Minnesota where he can be the big star but live in the shadows of his father JP? Will he go to Pittsburgh to be second fiddle to Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin? Will he stay loyal to team that drafted him? Will he come to Chicago and join a dynamic core of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook? Nobody knows where he is going to go but everybody wants to guess, no matter how far fetched they are. At this point, I don’t care anymore I just want Parise to dump or get off the pot already!
If the reports are true, Stan Bowman has made a major run at Parise. This should make Blackhawks fans very happy. It shows the Bowman is not happy with the makeup of this team and wants to add a major new piece to it. So what is plan B if Parise does not make Chicago home? Does Bowman try and bring in a veteran forward like Shane Doan or Jaromir Jagr? I hope not, that is a major drop off from getting a young star like Parise. If the Hawks don’t get Parise I think Bowman needs to go the trade route. The first player I would target would be Anaheim’s Bobby Ryan, who may or may not be on the market. Another player Bowman should be calling about is Winnipeg’s Evander Kane. A package of Niklas Hjalmarsson, prospects and draft picks could be enough to land either Ryan or Kane. Those two players are about as close to Parise as you are going to get. Bowman is trying to hit a home run. If he strikes out on Parise, keep swinging for the fences in the next at bat, don’t lay down a bunt!
