The Dirty Dozen: #5

Today we move into the top five on my list of most hated Chicago Blackhawks.  I know it is not nice to talk about the deceased, but I am most likely going to hell anyways so I am going to roll the dice.  Today we will look at the complete waste of a pair of skates, Alexander Karpovtsev.


The Blackhawks acquired Karpovtsev from the Toronto Maple Leafs for Bryan McCabe just before the 2000-01 season.  This lead to three and and half seasons of games missed, bad stats and a horrible attitude.  Karpovtsev missed a total of 88 games in the three seasons between 2000-01 and 2002-03.  He played a total of 182 games for the Blackhawks where he scored 7 goals had 39 assists and was a -19.  Karpovtsev played in 24 games during the 2003-04 season where he was a -17.  That is horrible plus/minus for a entire 82 game season, but just flat out miserable for a 24 game span.  The Hawks were able to unload this bum to the New Islanders in March of 2004 for a 4th round draft pick in 2005 that turned out to be Niklas Hjalmarsson.  I could pretty much copy and paste my rant on Boris Mironov and it would work perfectly for Karpovtsev.  But there is nothing I can say that Pat Foley didn’t say on the day Karpovtsev was shipped out of town.  Karpovtsev is #5 on my list of least liked Blackhawks, but he is #1 on Foley’s list for sure! The following is two of the greatest minutes ever broadcast over the air.
