This is a pretty big weekend for a lot of people as they prepare for the fantasy football drafts.  NHL.com has started preparing for the NHL season with their top 40 fantasy centers for the 2012-2013 season.  If you want to see the entire top 40 click here.

It was interesting that they have two Pittsburgh Penguins rated ahead of Jonathan Toews. Both Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby are in the top 3 of the fantasy center rankings sandwiched in between the Penguins is Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos.  I’m shocked that Stamkos hasn’t offered me season tickets to Tampa home games yet since every time I’ve watched him play against the Blackhawks he’s recorded a hat trick! Anyways the top five is rounded out by Claude Giroux and Anze Kopitar.

In the 6th spot is the Captain Jonathan Toews,  who was steamrolling to a career season before being derailed by a concussion which cost him a quarter of his season.  Toews may never lead the league in goals or points and may never be the leading fantasy NHL center scorer, but he is very consistent and will be a good #1 pick in when you draft.

The most disappointing part of the ranking is that there are no other Blackhawks centers in the top 40! Hello Dave Bolland! You have all the talent in the world to produce in 2012-2013 and get in the top 40.  Time to step up!!

I’m sure there will be plenty more Hawks in the rankings when the wings and defenseman are announced later this week, but I’m not holding my breath at the goalie rankings!

Will you play in a Fantasy Hockey League this year?
