Mass Signings With Storm Approaching

A strange thing happened yesterday in the wake of the final seconds about to run off the lockout clock.  Numerous players signed contracts yesterday.  I understand why the players are doing so but it doesn’t make sense either.  Shane Doan signed a 4 year deal as well as Alex Burrows signed a 4 year deal to mention the big names that signed Friday.

If you are fighting to keep a certain percentage, but you sign contracts before the new CBA is signed aren’t you already admitting defeat. If you are already admitting defeat send or negotiate the number that you are willing to sign the new CBA percentage.

Shane Doan is the most ridiculous case yet. He plays for a team that is owned by the NHL even though there is an ownership group ready to take over in Phoenix. Doan has played with the Phoenix organization for his entire career even starting in Winnipeg.  Doan goes on this whirlwind free agent tour while every “rumor mill” out there said he would sign a contract with Phoenix on September 14.  Nostradamus couldn’t have done better! Doan signed a 4 year deal worth 21 million which is a ton of money for a 35 year old given to him by the NHL which is about to lock out the player it just signed to a contract!

CBA’s are just document to protect owners from themselves or their GM’s.  They always find the loopholes and now a new CBA needs to be rewritten.  The loser in all of this is the people that really care the most the FANS!  The fans lose with no action on the ice and when they do return it will most likely cost more to see them play.  It’s hard to build younger newer fan bases when this will be the 4th lockout in less than 20 years.

Get the deal done so Doan and everyone else that signed yesterday can get their money……………NO get the deal done for the FANS!!!
