The Chicago Blackhawks took the win in Phoenix Sunday 6-4, capping off the opening weekend with a 2-0 start. The Blackhawks continue to get production from their top scores, with Hossa scoring 2 goals bringing his season total to 4.

Dave Bolland was among the other scores on Sunday sending in 2 goals and capturing an assist. Patrick Sharp, and Viktor Stalberg were the other two goal scores for the Hawks collecting one goal.

The Blackhawks scored on the power play, but continue to show their penalty kill as their strong suit on special teams. They killed 3 penalties Sunday, bringing their total to 8/8 in killing penalties for the season.

Although showing struggles at points in the game, Ray Emery walked out of Phoenix with the win Sunday stopping 25 shots in 29 attempts. Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith saw 31 shots, but only stopped 25 bringing his goals against average to 5.04 on the season.

The Blackhawks have scored 11 goals in 2 games with 9 of the 11 coming from players on the first 2 lines, showing the playmakers for the Blackhawks have come to play this season. Marian Hossa after the brutal hit in Phoenix last year has brought his total goals this season up to 4, while only tallying 1 assist bringing his point total to 5 this season which leads the team.

The Blackhawks travel home to play the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday in their home opener. That games scheduled puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Sadly I missed this game due to my work/sleep schedule. The score makes me feel I wouldn’t have been too happy with the win. We can’t rely on out scoring the opponent every game, that didn’t work out so well last year. On the positive side, great to see Hossa coming back strong. I’m also glad to see Boland working out on the second line.

Emery looked extremely shaky at best! Kane and Hossa look great!

That’s unfortunate, because I really wanted Emery to succeed here. How were the third and fourth line looking?

I thought all four lines played well the entire night, only Bollig took one silly penalty

I’m glad to hear we rolled all four lines and they played well. Penalties are being called left and right this season anyway so can’t get too upset.
