On this date in Chicago Blackhawks history,

On February 22, 1996 at the United Center against the St Louis Blues Tony Amonte scored the first hat trick in United Center history.  It took 53 games for a player to collect a hat trick at the New Madhouse on Madison Street. 

The three goal effort by Amonte was his first of six hat tricks while wearing a Blackhawks jersey. Amonte scored 268 goals and 273 assists in his 627 game Blackhawks career. Amonte finished his NHL career with exactly 900 points.

A first at the UC happened on this date 17 years ago today.
