It is an honor to be the newest member of the Blackhawk Up team and I am thrilled to introduce myself to the site’s loyal readership. Some fun facts about me: Born and raised in New York and have been living in Manhattan for the last eight years, Anti-New York sports fan in all major sports, and I am a hockey fan who has no idea how to ice skate.
One may ask, how does a kid growing up in the suburbs of New York City become a Chicago Blackhawk fan when he didn’t even play ice hockey growing up? First thing is first, there was no team better video game team than the Blackhawks, especially with the one-timer combination of Tony Amonte and Jeremy Roenick. In addition, a red Chris Chelios jersey was one of the first birthday gifts I ever received. Though I grew to be over six feet and had to stop wearing the Chelios jersey promptly at the age of 10, I still have the jersey in my childhood bedroom. The Blackhawks are one of the four teams I clung to as a kid and have been a loyal fan since I was old enough to play foot hockey (The other teams include the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and Dallas Cowboys, in case anyone wants to make fun of me in the future).
With the off-season already underway, I am looking forward to reporting on the moves the team will make to help them repeat as Stanley Cup champs. My New York perspective will offer a unique perspective on the team and will work well with the extremely talented Blackhawk Up staff. I am excited to cover the team on all things Blackhawks and am always open to interacting with my audience.
And If my touristy photo at Wrigley isn’t enough, I have plenty others from my trip to Chicago this year and hope to take more of them the next time I visit in 2014.
