Names like: Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Marian Hossa, and Patrick Sharp are typically the stars of the hockey games they play, as well the rosters they play on. While that remains the same as the Chicago Blackhawks unveiled their training camp roster, but for once, they aren’t the names that fans are looking for.
Everyone already knows the Hawks’ stars and leaders of the core, as well as the role they will play in the upcoming 2013-2014 NHL regular season, but this article will focus on the unknown names that fans should keep an eye on, during training camp.
Ryan Hartman, Teuvo Teravainen, Drew LeBlanc, Mark McNeill and Antti Raanta headline the younger portion of the intriguing names, at Hawks training camp. None of these players figure to make the final NHL roster, after camp, but all have bright futures, and all figure to be names to watch in the coming season, as they develop and refine their respective skills, before they are ready to contribute at the NHL level. These will definitely be names to keep an eye on.
Brandon Pirri appears to have the inside track on the 2nd line center job, going into training camp. Pirri has minimal NHL experience, and had an excellent season for the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, last season. The Hawks are counting on him to have a good camp, and to contribute to the NHL team this season.
Although nothing has truly been confirmed yet, Phillip Danault is rumored to be in the running for a roster spot, this season. In order to earn it, he will have to have a good training camp, as well as a good preseason.
Training camp will also feature the newest Hawks that were brought in via free agency. Nikolai Khabibulin is making his return to the Hawks, but this time it will be as a backup goaltender. Brad Winchester and Wade Brookbank were also brought in, in the offseason, and hope to earn roster spots with good preseasons.
While most of the Hawks roster is pretty much set in stone, there are still a few jobs up for grabs, going into training camp. It’s always fun to get an early look at the players that project to be future stars, with the Hawks, as they are getting their first looks, in the indian head sweater.
