There are those players on the Chicago Blackhawks roster who are surrounded by preseason hype and high expectations, and then there are those who just… not so much. The Blackhawks token tough guy, Brandon Bollig, falls into the latter category. He played 25 of 48 games last season for the Blackhawks but was more successful in his 35 games played for the Rockford IceHogs. He had 0 points for the Blackhawks and was a minus 1, while he scored 5 goals and 4 assists for the IceHogs and was a minus 1.
He played 5 games in the playoffs and didn’t make much of an impact either way, but he became somewhat of a hero in St. Louis. Why? His team won the Stanley Cup, so he spent a day with the trophy in his home of the St. Louis area. If someone near St. Louis wins the Stanley Cup, St. Louis will claim him as its own.
Bollig will probably make a few appearances in the NHL this season with the Blackhawks, and although he hasn’t had much of an impact on the scoreboard, he is useful in distracting a few physical players from running at the Blackhawks skill players. In those games, Bollig’s over/under is set at 0 goals, 2 assists, 6 fighting majors, and approximately 18 entertaining tweets along the way.
What’s your prediction for Brandon Bollig this season?
