The Chicago Blackhawks squared off against their old rivals the Detroit Red Wings. This game was filled with big illegal hits, lots of penalties, and lots of playing time for the Blackhawks youth.
The biggest hit of the game came from Teemu Pulkkien on Michael Kostka. Kostka was boarded by Pulkkien in the 1st period. Kostka did not return to the game while Pulkkien was ejected. Sheldon Brookbank was also boarded later in the game but was not injured on the play.
The Blackhawks youth was headlined by Teuvo Teravainen.
Teravainen enjoyed his first NHL preseason game. Said the game’s a lot faster here than in Finland. #Blackhawks

Other younger Blackhawks players made an impression tonight. Jeremy Morin assisted on the first goal of the game by Patrick Sharp. Jimmy Hayes continued his impressive camp with an assist on a Ben Smith goal to put the Blackhawks up for good 2-0.
Both Blackhawks goals were scored during 5 on 5 play and not on the power-play. The power-play looked to be in midseason form, which is not good for the Blackhawks faithful. The announcers kept stressing that power-play is not something you focus on during the preseason. Let’s hope the power-play improves as we get closer to the regular season opener.
Finally Corey Crawford got back on the United Center ice for the first time since the Stanley Cup Finals. Crawford did not face many shots tonight.
Crawford: “It wasn’t the toughest night. But I felt good in there. I would’ve liked to maybe get a little more key situations.” #Blackhawks
