What To Watch For: Blackhawks Visit Capitals

The Blackhawks are taking on the Capitals here are some things to watch for during the Hawks visit to the Nations Capital.

-Jonathan Toews making his first appearance of the preseason. Toews hasn’t seen any live action in training camp or the first two preseason games so it will be good to see the Captain back on the ice.

– Ben Smith looking to put his name on the final roster with another good game.  Smith has scored a goal in both preseason games which included last night’s shorty which is great considering the Hawks need a Michael Frolik replacement.

-Teuvo Teravainen is on his way home to Finland so we will be watching to see if Mark McNeill or Phillip Danault gets playing time at center tonight.  Both are more than likely heading to Rockford, but it will be good to see them get in some action.

-Ryan Stanton is making a huge push to make the team but getting two penalties late against the Pittsburgh Penguins didn’t help the cause, it will be interesting to see how he bounces back tonight.

-Drew LeBlanc is taking advantage of Brandon Pirri’s injury getting playing time and picking up assists in each preseason game so far.  I still think LeBlanc ends up in Rockford but you never know everyone seems to thinks he’s on the bubble.

-Jimmy Hayes and Jeremy Morin both seem to be fighting for a 3rd line spot with neither cracking the scoresheet on Thursday night.

-Antti Raanta gets his one scheduled preseason start tonight.

-Still looking to see Saad be a true center (winning faceoffs, creating)

-Excited to watch as many Rockford guys as possible play tonight.  Our pipeline is full of talent and it’s great to see them out there with a mix of Blackhawks stars.

-Will be watching to see if the powerplay can do anything tonight? 0-12 at any stage of any season really isn’t acceptable!!

What will you be watching for tonight?
