No Blackhawks has worn #9 since Bobby Hull took off the sweater for the last time in 1972 before leaving for the WHA and the Winnipeg Jets. Hull is either first, second or top 5 in every Blackhawks offensive category which is truly amazing when you look at the fact that Hull still played 8 more seasons in the WHA playing in 411 games with 303 goals and 355 assists.  Hull is the Hawks all-time goal scorer with 604 goals and is fourth in assists with 549. Hull is second all-time in points trailing only his long time teammate Stan Mikita.

Hull’s #9 was retired at Chicago Stadium on December 18, 1983, and nearly two decades later on October 22, 2011 Hull and Mikita statues were revealed outside of the United Center.

Hull was a 10 time all-star with 2 Hart Trophy’s and 3 Art Ross Trophy’s and he was part of the 1961 Stanley Cup Championship.

Today Hull is a Blackhawks ambassador.

Former #9’s Before Hull

1. Roy Conacher 1947-1952 Conacher played in 264 games scoring 102 goals and 125 assists.

2. Pete Conacher-1953-1955 Pete Conacher played in 131 games with the Hawks scoring 26 goals and 20 assists.

3. Nick Mickoski-1954-1958 Mickoski appeared in 220 games with the Hawks scoring 49 goals and 64 assists.

Only 9 Days until the Chicago Blackhawks 5th Stanley Cup banner is raised to the United Center rafters becoming a neighbor of Bobby Hull’s #9 Banner!
