The Chicago Blackhawks host the Buffalo Sabres tonight at the United Center at 7pm Central.
If you look at the stats this looks like a mismatch so let’s take a quick look at the stats
Chicago Blackhawks 2-1-1 Goals-13 goals 12-Goals allowed
Buffalo Sabres-0-4-1 Goals-5 Goals Allowed-14
Buffalo has a new coach new captains and yet they have absolutely no offense. No matter what level you play at averaging one goal a game is not going to cut it. You know the team is struggling when only 6 skaters have recorded a point so far this year, and only Christian Ehrhoff has a positive rating on the entire roster. The best part of the Sabres of course is Ryan Miller. Miller is 0-3 but has a .938 save percentage and a 2.36 Goals against average. Miller has even lost a game 1-0 earlier this season to the Ottawa Senators so at least there has been a bright side to the Sabres bad start to the season.
The Blackhawks righted the ship getting goals from the Captain Jonathan Toews and 2 unlikely heros in Joakim Nordstrom and Michal Handzus. The penalty kill was improved last night not giving up a goal when the New York Islanders had 2 chances at the man advantage. The Blackhawks power play has shown improvement the last few outings even without goals being put on the board. They have won faceoffs and had good puck control with shots on goal with net presence which is exactly what you expect from the man advantage.
Coach Quenneville has been juggling lines like it’s 2011 so it will be interesting if recalled Brandon Pirri gets in the lineup right away and what the lines will look like when the puck is dropped tonight. The key will be getting shots on goal with traffic in front of Miller to secure another win and 2 points for an outstanding weekend.
