Joel Quenneville - Coach Q had some ups and down this week. The first quote comes from the Blues post game.
“No, awful. Didn’t like our game at all tonight. First twelve minutes I liked.. after that.. (shakes head)”
It’s good to see Q not sugar coating his feelings. It can be easy to let poor performances go unaddressed after winning the cup. Q may get ridiculed for his line blending, but he always seems to get the attention of the room.
After the win against Toronto, Q gave some praise:
“We got what we were looking for as far as chances, zone time, it was consistency across the line,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “Even though we didn’t produce in the third period – we did score once (smirks) we did what we wanted to do tonight. We were much more effective.”
It seems that Q’s message was heard after the blues loss, and the Blackhawks came out and played a full 60 minutes.
Michael Kostka AKA Thor – talking about scoring his first NHL goal against his old team.
“Everything’s come full circle, and it was pretty sweet after about 40 games to get the first one in, even a little sweeter for it to happen against Toronto.”
When he was asked about his goal celebration:
“It was a long time waiting, and I needed to throw (that fist pump) into that because it doesn’t happen too often.”
I will say that I always smile when a Hawk gets their first goal. Kostka was rather excited, and that raw emotion seems contagious; it hit everyone around him. Toronto seemed happy to be rid of him, and he seems happy to be in Chicago.
#1 quote – Brandon Pirri on the game puck
“I don’t even know where it is. I imagine someone grabbed it”
he goes on to answer about the special place he will keep it
“I don’t know, I’m living out of a hotel right now so, there’s no real special place but it’s something I’ll keep forever.”
The life of a hockey player isn’t all glory and riches. Pirri reminds us that the guys are constantly living out of bags, but at least he has a great attitude about it.
