3. First Goal of the 2009 Winter Classic
Personally, I don’t believe that the buzz for any Winter Classic was as deafening as the buildup towards the Detroit Red Wings vs. the Chicago Blackhawks at Wrigley Field. It was quite the event and those who attended will never forget what it must have felt like to watch a hockey game in one of the oldest baseball stadiums of all-time. Versteeg, then a rookie, got things started with his goal against the Red Wings, the first of the Classic. The crowd’s reaction was one of the loudest that I have ever heard, especially within the friendly confines of Wrigley. Versteeg went on to having a fantastic rookie season and it was a nice preview of what we were going to see out of the Calder Trophy runner-up.
