USA Defeats The Czech Republic in WJC!

The USA squared off against Czech Republic in the opening game of the preliminary-round of Group A in the World Junior Championship.  Team USA is the defending WJC champions. The game between the USA and Czech Republic was not close.

Team USA would waste little time with the Czech Republic.  Team USA scored two power play goals within 41 seconds of each other in the first period.  The USA would never look back from the 2-0 lead. The final of the game was 5-1 in favor of the USA. The USA goals were scored by Riley Barber, Will Butcher, Hudson Fasching, Jaccob Slavin, and Vince Hinostroza.  Jon Gillies made 23 saves and lost his shutout bid with 5:47 to go in the third period.

Vince Hinostorza is a Blackhawks draft pick out of Notre Dame.  Hinstorza is a 6th round pick in the 2012 draft. Hinostorza has played the last three seasons with the Waterloo Blackhawks in the USHL. Hinostorza had his best season with Waterloo last year. There he recorded 25 goals and 35 assists in 46 games.

In the two other games played in WJC, Canada defeated Germany 7-2 and Russia routed Norway 11-0. Anthony Mantha recored a hat trick for Team Canada.

USA will take on Slovakia on Saturday at 7:30am. On Saturday, Norway takes on Finland and Russia takes on Switzerland.
