Chicago Blackhawks Antti Raanta and LA Kings Martin Jones were named Co-rookies of the Month in December. Raanta has been a pleasant surprise for the Chicago Blackhawks. The plan for Raanta was for him to stay in Rockford. Corey Crawford suffered a lower body injury and Raanta was pressed into service. Raanta performed very well in place of Crawford. Raanta is 8-1-3 with a 2.33 goals against average .912 save percentage in the month of December. Raanta allowed two goals or less in 10 of his 12 starts in December.. Raanta record for the season is 10-1-3 with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. In the Blackhawks last game of December, Raanta posted his first NHL career shutout against the Co-rookie of the month Martin Jones.
Martin Jones filled in for the LA Kings in place of the injured Jonathan Quick. Jones posted a record of 8-2 with a 1.29 goals against average and a .955 save percentage. Jones is the second goalie in NHL history to win his first eight games. He also the second goalie to start eight games in row allowing less than two goals or less in his first eight starts.
With Corey Crawford returning to the lineup last night. The Blackhawks are now faced with the situation that Kings will soon face, what do with their rookie goal tender?
