On Monday 1/20/2013, the NHL announced its “Three Stars” for the week ending Jan.19th, the winners were Tampa Bay Lightning Martin St.Louis, La Kings Jonathan Quick and Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford. First star St. Louis had four goals in a game against the San Jose Sharks and three goals in the first period. Second Star Jonathan Quick went 2-0-1 with a .097 goals-against average and a .967 save percentage. Quick also recorded one shutout.
Crawford went 2-0-1 with a 2.22 goals against average and a .916 save percentage to help the Blackhawks stay atop the Central Division. Crawford turned in three great performance against three great teams. He recorded 23 saves against the Colorado Avalanche on January 14th. In his next start Crawford made 19 saves against the RED HOT Anaheim Ducks in a 4-2 victory for the Blackhawks. He capped the week with a 34 save effort in a 3-2 shootout victory against the Boston Bruins. Crawford, who is the victim of many Blackhawks fans ire, was a difference maker this past week. Crawford out played Anaheim’s Jonas Hiller and Boston’s Tuukka Rask both Blackhawks victories. Crawford is now 19-7-7 on the season with a 2.44 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. The Blackhawks are 32-8-11 with 75 points and only trail Anaheim for the best record in the NHL.
The Blackhawks take on the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday January 22nd at 7:00pm. The game is on NBC Sports Network’s “Rivalry Night”.
