The Blackhawks Score 5 Unanswered Goals To Defeat Vancouver 5-2

The Hawks mini-slump slapped them right in the face 16 seconds into the game when Chris Higgins slipped one right through Corey Crawford for a 1-0 lead.  The Hawks looked to have more jump in their skates with Marian Hossa looking like a man on a mission.  The only problem for the Hawks was that Roberto Luongo after a shaky start and getting startled on a shot, Luongo settled down and shut down all 13 shots the Hawks through at him in the first period.

The second period didn’t start out any better, three minutes into the period Kris Versteeg had his pocket picked and it ended up with a Vacnouver goal and a 2-0 lead. The Hawks finally got one past Luongo on their first powerplay when after a nice passing play Marian Hossa scored an easy one to cut lead in half.  A few minutes later Brandon Saad tipped in a Sheldon Brookbank shot from the point and just like that the game was tied up.  Just a minute later on a lazy play by the Canucks defense Brent Seabrook centered one that the Captain was able to tap in to give the Hawks the lead. The final goal of the period came near the end of the period when Patrick Sharp made a nice move just inside the blue line and fired one past Luongo on a shot he should have stopped.  4 straight goals to end the period gave the Hawks a 4-2 lead heading to intermission.

The Canucks came out flying  the third period and built up a 10-2 shot lead through the first half of the period. The biggest save of the period was by the Captain Jonathan Toews on the Canucks powerplay when he stacked the pads and stopped the Vancouver shot.  The Canucks had a lot of momentum in the third until a really strong shift by the 4th line gave the Hawks some life and helped them weather the Canucks third period storm.  The Hawks put the final touch on the victory when Saad put in an empty netter.

-Corey Crawford picked up his 20th win of the season

-The Hawks improved to 8-9-7 when the opponent scores first.

-The Hawks improved to 10-1-3 on the back end of back to back games.
