In today’s men Olympic opener The Czech Republic versus Sweden, we had several Blackhawks players involved.  Michal Rozsival was the Blackhawks representative on the Czech Republic. Sweden featured Blackhawks Marcus Kruger, Johnny Oduya, and Niklas Hjalmarsson on their roster.

Sweden defeated the Czech Republic 4-2 in the game. Rozsvial was on the ice for two goals by Sweden and rated a -2. Kruger, Oduya, and Hjalmarsson were rated as zeroes for the game. These Blackhawks players are not superstars on the Blackhawks and nor should be looked as such. They are role players and played as such.  On the NHL season, Rozsival is a plus five rating on the season, but has been in a platoon with Mike Kostka, and Sheldon Brookbank.

The Czech Republic was not favored to do much in this tournament. The odds makers have them at a plus 175. Czechs will take on Latvia on Friday.  Sweden meanwhile is a favorite to win the Gold Medal. Sweden is a -200 favorite. Sweden will take on Switzerland on Friday.

The next Blackhawks in action are Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa, and Michal Handzus when the USA takes on Slovakia.
