Not to take anything away from Versteeg’s goal, but I must say that this is all Kane. Even with the snowy conditions making passing and puck handling a chore, Kane still pulls off a great toe drag followed by a tape to tape pass. Kane may not have scored but he did create a few really good chances. Some people say Kane is in a bit of a slump, which I can see the argument, but after last nights game I can easily see a hot streak coming on.
Saad did a great job drawing the defender over to his side of the ice and getting the pass off to a streaking Bickell. Bicks would slam home his own rebound giving the Blackhawks back their three goal lead. This goal was big in my opinion. The Blackhawks make me nervous when they have a two goal lead, especially in the third. The Hawks just finished a big PK a few minutes earlier and after this goal, you knew it was over for the Penguins.
Blackhawks 5-1 17:52 in the 3rd – Jonathan Toews (21) Wrist shot – ASST: Patrick Sharp (31)
The Penguins may have been outplayed overall but they weren’t going to let the Blackhawks lead them in the own goal department. Toews would fire what seemed to be a fairly harmless shot on net, but it would bounce off Fleury and then off the Pen’s defender and in. If this really was a measuring stick game between the two teams the Hawks came out way ahead.
FINAL CAPTAINS SCORE: Toews +3 – Crosby -2
FINAL SCORE: Chicago Blackhawks 5 – Pittsburgh Penguins 1
