One Brandon departs and another gets an extension. This one isn’t quite as surprising as last night’s news that Brandon Pirri was traded, but some are may be surprised at the timing of Brandon Bollig’s contract extension.
The Blackhawks through multiple sources say that Bollig has been given a three-year extension.
The Brandon Bollig experience in 2013-2014 has included a lot less fighting this season and quite a bit more playing hockey and making hockey plays. Bollig is part of one of the two lines that Coach Quenneville has confidence in this season. Bollig is a key part of the Marcus Kruger, Ben Smith 4th line which has done a fantastic job this season in creating havoc and eating up ice time while creating chances.
Before this season Bollig’s only career point came on a wrist shot from the Blue line that beat Mike Smith in the 2012 playoff in Phoenix, this season he’s not tearing up the scoresheet but he does find it every now and again. Bollig scored the first goal of the season on opening night and now has 6 goals and 6 assists on the season. Here are a couple GIF’s of Bollig’s improved offense this year.
The news is the total bill for Bollig is $1.25 million a year! This seems like a whole lot of dollar bills for a player that cannot get above the 4th line in Chicago. The statement is In Stan We Trust but in the past 12 hours that saying is getting harder to say!
What do you think of the extension?
