The Rockford IceHogs had a slow week in the schedule, with only one game in the past seven days. The team also signed a newly acquired forward to a new contract.
Friday, March 14 vs. Milwaukee Admirals
The IceHogs and Admirals squared off for the second-last time this regular season on Friday, the third game in a row against each other for the ‘Hogs. After Milwaukee jumped out to the lead just a minute in, Jeremy Morin scored twice, including one on the power-play, to give Rockford the lead. The IceHogs and Admirals traded goals for the rest of the second period, but Milwaukee scored a go-ahead goal early in the third for a 5-4 lead. Brad Mills scored his second of the game to tie it, and the action would eventually head to a shootout. Joakim Nordstrom, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, nor Terry Broadhurst could find the net, as the Admirals won the game 6-5. Jason LaBarbera made 33 saves, but could only stop one in the shootout. Morin was the game’s Second Star with a two-goal performance.
With the trade deadline now behind them, the IceHogs have not made any roster moves in the past two weeks. However, on Wednesday morning they announced that forward Brandon Mashinter was signed to a two-year contract. Mashinter, who is 25 years old, has 11 goals and 12 assists in 34 games with the IceHogs since being acquired from the New York Rangers on December 6th. He has played in 23 career NHL games with the Rangers and San Jose Sharks.
