On this date in Chicago Blackhawks history,
On May 27, 2013 the Chicago Blackhawks were on the road in Joe Louis Arena to face the Detroit Red Wings down 3 games to 2 in their best of seven Conference Semi-final series. The Blackhawks easily won Game #1, fell apart in the third period of Game #2 and went on the road to lose two in a row to trail their hated rivals 3 games to one. The Blackhawks won Game #5 at the United Center but would need a win in Detroit which they hadn’t done in the playoffs since 1995 to force a Game #7.
It looked pretty grim for the Blackhawks when they trailed 2-1 heading to what looked like their final period of their season, but Michal Handzus found himself all alone in front of Jimmy Howard to tie the game up early in the third period.
The Blackhawks would take the lead when Bryan Bickell parked in front of Howard scored the go ahead goal and the Blackhawks were surging and to top off the scoring, was just the only penalty shot made in the 2013 playoffs by Michael Frolik.
The Blackhawks would of course finish off Game #6 and win a wild Game #7 at the United Center a few days later and head to the Western Conference Finals against the Los Angeles Kings.
Flashforward to today and the question is do the Hawks have this kind of comeback in them again this year, the Hawks have been down 3-1 12 times and are 1-11 in those series with this Red Wing comeback as the only time in history they have accomplished winning 3 in a row to win the series. They can do it but will they?
On this date one year ago today the Hawks won a huge game on the road on their march to the Stanley Cup!
