USA Hockey wrapped up their annual National Junior Evaluation Camp on Saturday by beating the Czech Republic 3-0. Two of the goals scored came from the Blackhawks prospect pool. Tyler Motte had a goal in the first, and John Hayden tallied in the 3rd.
Of all four Hawks prospects in the camp, Motte was the most successful. He had a hat trick in Team USA’s 9-1 drubbing of Finland. In the three scrimmages that have been played since the US made their final cuts on Tuesday, Motte had a total of 5 points (4 goals and 1 assist). John Hayden had 3 goals, while playing on a line with Nick Schmaltz, who assisted on a couple.
Hayden and Schmaltz, who was the Blackhawks 2014 first round pick, validated their ability to play together after a successful run of scrimmages in the 2014 Blackhawks Prospect Camp. Those two played on a line with Anthony Louis during the Hawks camp, but although he made the cut, Louis did not get much ice time.
Robin Norrel, although he didn’t get any points the scorecard, skated well for Sweden in their 7-1 loss to USA.
Team USA in general looked very good during the camp. Jack Eichel, who is 2015 draft eligible, had 8 goals including 7 assists, and Auston Matthews, who is only 16 years old, played surprisingly well. Sonny Milano had an up and down camp.
Unfortunately, none of the goalies played particularly well for the squad.
All of this news brings great excitement to Hawks fans, as we know what the future holds for this franchise.
