We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again. In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Blackhawks October 9th season opener against the Dallas Stars.
Only 3 players have ever worn #51 in Chicago Blackhawks history and one of those was a fan favorite that helped win the first Stanley Cup in 49 years for the Blackhawks and helped turn a franchise back into one that every hockey player wants to be a part of. Here are the Big 3 that have worn #51
Jeff Hamilton- 2007
Game Winning Goals
Hamilton’s best NHL season was with the Hawks in 2007, but he wasn’t re-signed as a free agent after his career season and moved on to the Carolina Hurricanes with the Hawks needing space for the arrival of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane
Brian Campbell 2009-2011
Game Winning Goals-4
Campbell’s huge contract was a Dale Tallon special but Campbell’s best seasons by far were the 3 he spent in Chicago including that great 2010 season where his pairing was the shutdown Defensive pairing during the playoffs. Sadly his contract had to be dumped in 2011 and the Hawks received Rostislav Olesz in return. Thanks for helping to break the 49 year curse #51!
Mills looked like he was going to be a solid 4th liner and penalty killer during the 2013-2014 season before an ankle injury derailed his time in Chicago and forced the Hawks to make roster moves which included sending Mills back to Rockford.
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Faceoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on October 9th. We’re 51 days from the season opener. Is it October yet???
