We’re heading into the dog days of the offseason, counting the days until the Chicago Blackhawks 2014 Season kicks off. We’re going to do a Top 100 list of all time Chicago Blackhawks. It’s a fun way to pass the time and take a stroll down Memory Lane.
Game Winning Goals-22
Zhamnov was an excellent scorer in his early days with the Winnipeg Jets having scored 30 goals once with Winnipeg and eclipsing the 70 point barrier twice in four full seasons with the Jets. When the Jets relocated to Phoenix the ownership wanted a big name star and they found one when the Chicago Blackhawks dealt Jeremy Roenick to them for Zhamnov and this is where the story ends for Zhamnov.
Zhamnov could never come close to filling the skates of Jeremy Roenick who was one of the biggest fan favorites in 20 years with the Blackhawks. Zhamnov except for the ability to get his name on the scoresheet a lot was the polar opposite of Roenick and it may have taken a 2 or 3 Stanley Cups for the fans to ever truly embrace Zhamnov after he arrived and J.R. moved on to warmer pastures.
When looking at Zhamnov’s stats they are pretty good all-time in franchise history. He ranks 24th all-time in points having just been passed this past season by Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp. The other very noticeable thing about the Zhamnov resume is that he wasn’t able to lead the Hawks to the playoffs. Yes, Zhamnov played in the dark ages but he also never was able to get a group of young Hawks and lead them to the playoffs except for 5 games in the spring of 2001.
Zhamnov is one of the names most Hawks fans will cringe at when hearing and rightfully so because he wasn’t J.R. and let’s be honest who could be J.R.!!!
Zhamnov is #43 on the list. What do you think? Too high or Too low?
