We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Blackhawks  October 9th season opener against the Dallas Stars.

Welcome to the countdown and the #40 which is a who’s who in average goalies in Blakchawks history.  Let’s take a quick look at today’s Blackhawks that have worn #40

1. Warren Skorodenski- 1987 Warren played in 32 games going 12-11-4 with a .904 save percentage before heading to the Edmonton Oilers

2. Darren Pang-1988-89 Pang has had a great career as a broadcaster but his stay with the Blackhawks in net wasn’t that fantastic. He Played in Chicago for 3 seasons going 27-35-7 in 81 appearances. He also made 4 playoff appearances going 1-3.  His stay was short but for some reason he’s remembered a lot I guess it’s all the great Panger broadcasts.

3. Ethan Moreau-1996 Moreau broke into the NHL in 1996 after being a 1st round pick by the Blackhawks in the 1994 NHL Draft. Moreau played 8 games wearing #40 with one assist. The following season he switched to #19, he played 137 games with this jersey number scoring 24 goals and 25 assists.  Moreau was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 1999 along with Daniel Cleary, Chad Kilger, and Christian LaFlamme for Boris MironovDean McAmmond, and Jonas Elfosson.

4. Chris Terreri- 1997-1998 Terreri played in 28 games scoring 12 goals and 11 assists, but his name is only familiar/hated with Blackhawks fans for being part of the package the Blackhawks received for Ed Belfour.

5. Casey Hankinson-2001-2002 Hankinson played 14 career games over two seasons for the Blackhawks with one assist on the his career resume.

6. Matt Underhill-2004 Underhill made it to the NHL with Chicago for one career NHL game and picked up one assist.

7. Patrick Lalime-2008-2009 Lalime signed with the Blackhawks as a free agent and played 44 games for the Hawks over two seasons going 20-18-3 wearing #40. He started 444 NHL games in his career going 200-174-48 with a .905 save percentage.

8. Kent Simpson- Simpson made it in one game last season and was torched giving up a goal on the first shot he saw and now is probably the backup in Rockford behind recently signed Michael Leighton.

Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Faceoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on October 9th. We’re 40 days from the season opener.  Is it October yet???
