Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The 2017 Stanley Cup Final has made me think about the 1992 Stanley Cup Final that the Hawks ended up losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the 1992 Stanley Cup Final, the Pittsburgh Penguins were the defending Stanley Cup Champions and they hosted Game #1.  The Chicago Blackhawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but ended up losing 5-4 with

Jaromir Jagr

making an all-time play to seal the deal in the opening contest of the series.

What makes me think that this series is falling into the same pattern as 1992 is not just one circumstance.

First it’s the Penguins trying to repeat playing against a team that hadn’t been to a Final in a long time (or ever in the way of the Predators).  Game #1 was dominated by the road team, but the Penguins found a way to pull out a victory.

In Game #2 the Pens dominated in 1992 and last night a huge third period gave them an easy win and a 2-0 lead in the series.

Both teams were led by generational talent.  The 1992 team was led by Super Mario while this version is led by Sidney Crosby.

The biggest reason is that Game #1 was such a blow that both teams couldn’t recover.

Granted, the Preds can flip the script in Game #3, but if you ask me I don’t see it happening due to injuries and Pekka Rinne getting worse by the second.

In Game #4 in 1992 Dirk Graham had a hat trick, and Dominik Hasek played before becoming a Hall of Famer for another franchise so who know what the rest of this series will present us.

I wish Jeremy Roenick, Steve Larmer and that crew could have won the Cup in 1992, but it wasn’t meant to be.  Here are some morning links to start your day.
