Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! After a few weeks of nothing to talk about after all the big trades around the draft. The Chicago Blackhawks prospect camp kicks off Monday which will give us a lot more news that’s for sure.

Last year’s prospect camp was the first time since I’ve been running Blackhawk Up that I totally didn’t care what was happening which really isn’t fair because Alexandre Fortin started making a name for himself there last summer.

The thing was after years of talent at prospect camp, there really wasn’t a buzz or a player I was really wanting to get news about like years past when Teuvo Teravainen played.

This year has plenty of names like Alex DeBrincat, but for the first time in like 3 summers the Chicago Blackhawks will have a first round draft choice in prospect camp.   All the years of chasing Stanley Cups and making deals at the trade deadline had cost the Hawks 1st round picks.

So it will be nice to see what the Hawks who if you watched the On The Clock series were all sold on their first round defensive pick Henri Jokiharju.  The Hawks desperately need someone on defense to step up and take that next leap forward. Obviously, it won’t be Jokiharju this year, but somebody like Ville Pokka needs to make it big with Niklas Hjalmarsson gone now.

It’s another quiet weekend, but come Monday it will be Prospecting 101!
