Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The month of July comes to a close today which means we only have to get through August and September before the Chicago Blackhawks are back on the ice again!

So in the month of July the Chicago Blackhawks signed an aging Stanley Cup winner, and some young role players during the free agent period.  We also a prospect camp that didn’t live up to the Alex DeBrincat hype train.

The biggest thing July taught us is that Stan Bowman and Joel Quenneville like getting  their old toys back. In June they got Brandon Saad back in the Artemi Panarin swap, and then for the hometown discount of $1 million dollars, Patrick Sharp came back home.

For starters, never give away your old jerseys!! They always come back home! Secondly, let’s hope Sharp has something left in the tank, because we all know that he will be playing with Patrick Kane most likely when the season starts.

The real interesting signings were Lance Bouma and Tommy Wingels.  They are both role players which seemingly is most of the roster now.  Wingels can play center and take draws which makes him valuable, but Bouma is just a poor mans Brandon Bollig which I though we were done with in this era of hockey.

Lastly, July taught us to sadly pump the brakes on DeBrincat.  I think he’s more of a gamer than a drill guy so I’m not really worried that he didn’t oooh and aaaaah everyone at prospect camp.  Let’s see him play at the rookie tournament and preseason and see what he can do before we poo poo on him for this coming season.
