By Jeffrey Bartl

New Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman made his first move in the front office, hiring long-time AHL and IHL general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff his Assistant GM.

Cheveldayoff, 39, has been GM of the Chicago Wolves — the AHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers — for the past 12 seasons, getting his start in Chicago as a 27-year-old.

“Reaching the National Hockey League has always been a dream of mine and I’m proud to be able to do it as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks, an organization that has made major strides over the past two years,” Cheveldayoff said.
