Niemi in goal, Hjalmarsson out vs. Boston

By Jeffrey Bartl

Chris Kuc is reporting Antti Niemi will get the start in net and defensman Niklas Hjalmarsson will sit tonight against the Boston Bruins.

Coach Q said the start for Niemi is to help balance the load with Cristobal Huet as the Blackhawks will face Detroit and Nashville twice with San Jose tossed in there over the next week and a half. As much as I think Huet will always be the No. 1, there’s never a problem giving a start to a backup who is 6-1-1 on the season with three shutouts. Yeah, that’s pretty good.

Hjalmarsson is “under the weather,” according to Coach Q, and will rest up tonight and Saturday before the Communists visit Sunday at the United Center.

Tonight is a matchup of the top two penalty killing units in the NHL, meaning the ‘Hawks power play should look even worse than normal. Boston kills at 86.2 percent with the ‘Hawks right behind at 85.5 percent.

The Boston Globe is reporting last season’s Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas will start in net tonight for the Bs.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. CT, and this guy will be in his usual seat — Section 326, Row 12, Seat 11. It’s Friday, bring me a beer. GO ‘HAWKS!!
