Kyle Beach: What Might Have Been

By Greg Boysen

If there ever was  a season for Kyle Beach to live up to his draft status, this was the year to do it.  It must be killing Beach to watch all the Rockford players get their shot with the Blackhawks while he sits at home with an injury.  Andrew Shaw probably would not have ever became a Twitter fad if Beach was healthy.  Back in late October, Beach dislocated his shoulder in a fight with Stefan Della Rovere of the Peoria Rivermen.  Beach has not played since and has no time table for a return, but he has started skating again.

Beach looked like a different player early on in the season.  He had 3 goals and 3 assists in 8 games for the IceHogs before the injury.  He wasn’t playing with such reckless abandonment that plagued him his first full season in the AHL.  Had he stayed healthy and kept his head out of his ass, I am sure he would have been called up to Chicago.  Would he have stayed on?  Who knows for sure?  He would have  had a chance to stick like Andrew Shaw has.  With the way things have gone so far for the Blackhawks a player like Beach could have been a very nice addition.  This injury has not only hindered his chances at a shot in the NHL, but  it also has shuffled him further down the prospect ladder.  I am rooting for Kyle to recover and make to Chicago one of these days.
