Sweeping NY!

By Keith Schultz

There’s nothing better than beating New York! Check that, there’s nothing better than beating New York Rangers twice in 3 weeks!! This outcome took a lot longer than last time when the Hawks were up 4-0 after 1 period.  After losing the first period and being down 1-0, Player of the game Johnny Oduya made a great play at the blue line and Andrew Shaw (whose face gets more scars per game) tipped it in for a tie game at the end of 2nd period.

The third period was more typical of the Chicago Blackhawks efforts earlier in the season when they were playing their best hockey.  They scored 3 goals in the last 7 minutes to get the huge Win!  Patrick Kane to Marian Hossa to Patrick Sharp after a Rangers turnover got the game tied up.  Then Oduya blasted one past Henrik Lundqvist for the lead.  Patrick Kane tipped in an empty netter for the 4-2 lead in the final minute before  Brad Richard put in a goal in the final minute for the 4-3 final.

Oduya after going -3 in his first period with the Hawks, has seemed to settle the Hawks defensive pairings a bit.  He seems to be in the right position at the right time, and he has a big shot from the point.

Ray Emery was good, and good enough for the win.  This is what the Hawks need,  don’t give up soft or easy goals and make the opposition make good plays to get the puck in the net.

Patrick Kane had another goal and another good game.  With Jonathon Towes out for at least a couple more game, even though there are reports he wants to play Tuesday and there hasn’t been any setbacks,  Kane’s improved play has kept the Hawks playoff hopes afloat.

Very good third period comeback and domination!  The Blackhawks lack of cofidence, which was very apparent during their long losing streaks, seems to be dissappearing since the trade deadline passed.  They Hawks are 4-1 since the trade deadline, and now have a 7 point cushion over the 9 seed!  One of those teams with 74 points and looking up to the playoff bubble is the LA Kings who visit the United Center Sunday night!  Every game is huge but these 2 points will be a big deal.  Friday night had a playoff atmosphere and the Hawks responded! This will need to continue in the final 13.

Sweeping New York was great, Now time to take down LA!!!

Let’s Go Hawks!!
