Blackhawks News

Wild End to the Weekend

By Keith Schultz

It’s nice entering the 80th game of the season, and the home finale to have clinched a playoff spot. Having nothing to play for except playoff seeding was a little evident in the 2nd period, but the Hawks rallied to send the game into overtime. In the end, the Chicago Blackhawks gained a point in the contest with a 5-4 loss in OT, and are  now currently tied with the Nashville Predators for the dreaded#5 slot and one point below the Detroit Red Wings.

Patrick Kane is playing by far his best hockey of the season as he also tallied two goals in the contest.  Viktor Stalberg scored his 21st goal this evening  and it is becoming very evident that his speed will be a big advantage during the playoffs.

The Blackhawks went 2-1-2 with Duncan Keith suspended. This was about as good as could have been expected with his abscense.  5 points and Keith getting a week and half off from big time minutes from Coach Quennville could be a “good thing” come playoff time.

Wrestlemania 28 was on tonight (for only 64.99 in HD!!) and our young Hawks decided to go all Hulk Hogan and John Cena on the Minnesota Wild! Brandon Bollig does what Brandon Bollig does well (PSSST it’s not offensive hockey) Yes Bollig fought. The suprise person to enter the ring was Gritty Gutty Scott Skiles errr I mean Andrew Shaw.  This kid is highly likeable!! He’s scrappy, he makes good passes and usually being at the right place in the right time gets points nightly.  He has the blue collar work ethic that everyone in the United Center should appreciate!

Ray Emery was not sharp in the first two periods, but stopped everything he saw in the third period and overtime.  He stopped 26 of 30 shots, and allowed two shootout goals to collect the L.  Emery is 15-9-4 this season.  The way Corey Crawford has played of late, has to make you believe it will be Crawford in net when the NHL playoffs begin in a week and half.

Jonathan Toews skated with contact today. PLEASE proceed with caution with the Captain.  The Hawks have now gone 12-5-3 with Towes out with his concussion. The playoffs are secure!! Please don’t let Towes skate a single shift until its at least the first game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Some other good news following the 10th OT loss for the Hawks is come playoffs they don’t have to lose again in the shoot-out!! The schedule makers were nice enough to give the Hawks some time off this week, as they don’t play agains until Thursday!

This was a pretty wild and fun weekend of Blackhawks hockey! Who and where and what seed the Hawks will end up being is anyone’s guees, but the Hawks are playing some good exciting hockey right now and 2 of their best players will have fresh legs.  The Hawks could and should be the NHL “dangerous team” when analysts start talking Western Conference brackets.

Can’t Wait for the Playoffs!!!

LET’s GO Hawks!!!
