Throw away the razor (hopefully reinsert Tazor) and buckle up your chin straps the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs are coming up NEXT!! The strange and streaky 2011-2012 Chicago Blackhawks regular season came to end in the Motor City on Saturday.  The Hawks won and for their efforts get the Phoenix Coyotes.  The Hawks do avoid playing a division foe in the first round. The Central division  produced 4 100 point franchises this season!!

Speaking of a streaky up and down season… Corey Crawford ended the season with his second consecutive 30 win season. Crawford went 30-17-7 with a .903 save% and giving up 2.72 goals against with 0 shutouts.  Crawford had a very strong game against the Detroit Red Wings Saturday, and if you throw out the game in St. Louis he has been very solid the last 10 outings and seems poised for a good playoff run!

Marian Hossa ended the season as the top Blackhawk point scorer with 77 points with 29 goals and 48 assists. Patrick Sharp ended the regular season as top goal scorer with 33.  While missing the last 22 games of the season, Jonathan Toews still finished 4th in points on the team with 57 with 29 goals and 28 assists.

The Blackhawks with their win to finish off the season ended with a record of 45-26-11 with 101 points and our currently tied with Detroit for most goals scored in the Western Conference with 248 goals scored. Their Achilles heal is exposed though in that defensively the only team in the Western Conference to give up more goals (238) was the Columbus Blue Jackets (259).

THE GOOD NEWS—All of these stats are meaningless including the “Character Building” 9 game losing streak after the  NHL All-Star Game!!!

All it takes is 2 months of Great hockey and 16 wins to hoist the Cup again!  If Toews comes back there isn’t a team in the Western Conference that this team cannot beat.  I’m sure someone is reading this wondering how much Hawk Kool-Aid we are drinking here at Blackhawk Up, but this team has all the talent with a healthy Captain to win their 2nd Cup in 3 seasons.  There will be several key players that need to bring their A games, but we all know that if Crawford plays like he’s been playing the Hawks will be in every game if not winning them!!

We will be getting more in depth in the next couple days with the first game right around the corner, but for now…the regular season is over, and the best season of the year is about to begin.. Playoff Hockey. Can’t Wait!!!
