Calling in the Reserve

By Keith Schultz

Unless you are living under a rock, or you don’t have a facebook or twitter account, you have seen Raffi Torres jump into Marian Hossa TOO many times!! You know its even made it mainstream when its the opening segment on PTI.  At least Torres will miss Thursday nights game and should be a lot more games since he was ruled suspended indefinitely on Wednesday!!  With the NHL this post season it’s unsure what will be the outcome which is a shame! The inconsistency of punishment by Brenden Shanahan is becoming laughable and disgusting at the same time!  Again one of the worst plays happened on the first night of the playoffs, and all Shea Weber  received was a $2,500 fine, the goon gates were opened up wide by one weak decision! No matter what decision is made by Shanahan he will be ridiculed, and it’s his own fault due to his inconsistency.  No matter how much improved the ratings are, when the stars are getting injured it’s not good for the sport of hockey.

Luckily, Marian Hossa was able to walk out of the hospital by his own power, but now he will be out for at least game 4 if not the rest of the series.  The series without Torres and Hossa will still continue on Thursday Night at the United Center with the Phoenix Coyotes leading 2-1!  The Chicago Blackhawks have two choices. 1. Put your head between your legs and give up or 2. Marian Hossa becomes a rally cry and the troops take game 4 and gain momentum to take the series!

The hit will define the series as well as the player replacing Hossa.  Enter Left Winger Brandon Saad to the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs! Saad had a cup of coffee and had a few shifts in the first two games of the season.  He registered 3 shots on goal before getting sent down to the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL.  While in Saginaw he dominated play this season collecting 34 goals and 42 assists. In the 12 games he played in the OHL playoffs he scored 8 goals and 9 assists.   He now will reenter the Hawks lineup after 80 regular season games and 3 playoff games have been played since he last skated with the Hawks.  He has the talent to be on one of the top two lines, and unthankfully because of Torres he has the opportunity to show the UC crowd why he’s a star for years to  come.

Saad has some huge Marian Hossa skates to fill Thursday night and the series may hang in the balance, hopefully potential meet reality on Thursday night in Chicago!!

Let’s Go Hawks!!
