Hawks Add Brookbank, Is Parise Next?

By Greg Boysen

Stan Bowman added some depth to the blue line yesterday by signing veteran Sheldon Brookbank. Brookbank is not a flashy player but will be a nice 6th or 7th defenseman.  He will add some toughness and grit to the Blackhawks.  He blocks shots and will hit people as well.  He has been a decent penalty killer the last couple of years with the Ducks.  The best part about Brookbank is that he is not Sean O’Donnell.  Brookbank only has 36 points in 277 career games but he is a plus 17 for his career.

There have been a few reports today that the Blackhawks have become a major player in the Zach Parise sweepstakes.  In fact, some reports saying Parise is down to either the Hawks or New Jersey.  I want to believe this but I find it hard to considering there was no talk about this on Sunday.  If the Hawks can land Parise they will become a powerful offensive team.  Although I would rather have Ryan Suter than Parise, but I will not complain about signing Parise.  There is word that Parise will make his decision today so hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer to see where he ends up.
