The editor of fansideds Toronto Maple Leafs team sight (Editor-In-Leaf) Tim Bayer decided to rank all the captains in the NHL after Gabriel Landeskog was announced as the Captain of the Colorado Avalanche.  He uses a 4 part ranking system and you can see his article and formula by clicking here to read the article.

After reading the article I must say that for starters and finishers he has Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews ranked entirely too low.  Of course all Hawks fans want to rank their guy #1, but if you take a look back at what Toews has accomplished in such a short time (taking over the captaincy in 2008)  you would have to rank him higher than #11 on any list.

– Gold Medal in the Olympics

– Stanley Cup Champion in Chicago (first since 1961)

– Conn Smyth Award winner

– Has led the Blackhawks to the playoffs ever year as a Captain

– Routinely top 5 in faceoffs won

Lists are fun to read and debate, but it also needs to be pointed out when their is an injustice involved.  #19 on the Hawks is one of the most valuable commodities in all of hockey and a great captain and no matter what formula is used is closer to #1 than #11!  Thanks Tim for the column and great information and ranking Toews so low that a rebuttal needed to be submitted!
