Happy Birthday Chicago Blackhawks!

The Blackhawks were born on this date in 1926. Fredric McLaughlin outbid James Norris for the rights to the franchise.  They were nicknamed the Black Hawks in honor of McLaughlin’s military unit.  It has been a great franchise ever since.  The Blackhawks have won 4 Stanley Cups including their  most recent and exciting win in 2010.  The Blackhawks have 14 division titles, 56 playoff appearances, 2 conference titles, and 1 presidents trophy.

The Blackhawks have 8 numbers retired- #1 Glenn Hall, #3 Keith Magnuson, Pierre Pilote, #9 Bobby Hull, #18 Denis Savard, #21 Stan Mikta, #35 Tony Espisito, #99 Wayne Gretzky

Even though ESPN current rankings disagree, but the Blackhawks have by far the best jersey in all of sports. They left the loudest building ever to attend a hockey game in Old Chicago Stadium in 1992 for the bigger and more modern United Center that still can get to the fabled Madhouse on Madison St.

The Hawks ironically were born on the same day as the Detroit Red Wings.  Like an evil twin brother the Blackhawks and Red Wings will forever be bitter rivals!

86 years young and still kicking! Hopefully the organization can blow out all those candles and a lockout in one breath! What’s your favorite Hawks memory? Please feel free to leave your favorite memory in the comment section!
