With absolutely nothing happening on the CBA/Lockout front this weekend, the Rockford Icehogs played host to the Charlotte Checkers for back to back games. Saturday night’s event was more of the same for the Hogs as they only tallied one goal in a 2-1 loss in their home opener with Marcus Kruger getting the only puck into the back of the net. The power outage in Rockford was starting to get a bit confusing with all the talent that has been on the NHL stage. Carter Hutton played well again in the losing effort. The tough luck Hutton is 0-3-1 with a .929 save% and a 2.24 GAA. If and when the offense responds Hutton’s win total will increase steadily if his steady play continues.
Hutton had Sunday night off so naturally, Sunday night finally brought out some fireworks. Brandon Pirri scored on Sunday night as well as Jimmy Hayes who had not one but two goals in their 5-4 first win of the season. Brandon Bollig also tallied the goal that put the game away in the win. Rockford finally put together a big time offensive effort in the early stages of the 2012-2013 season. The Hogs have some time off now before their next match up at home against San Antonio Thursday night.
The star of the game was Hayes who collected his first two goals of the season. Hopefully Hayes and Hogs can continue this bit of momentum after tonight’s game and keep the offense cranking which they should be doing with all the offensive talent they have on the roster. Time will tell which seems to be on their side without any kind of negotiations being held since Gary Bettman walked out of the last meeting last week.
The lockout is getting old but the young Blackhawks are getting quality ice time against good opponents! This should bode well when the lockout is finally lifted!!!
END THE LOCKOUT!!!
