Today could be the day that turns the tide in the lockout between the NHL and NHLPA.  An owners/players meeting without the two people we disdain the most, Donald Fehr and Gary Bettman.  This meeting will only have  a select few owners and a select few players coming to meet to discuss the topics and hopefully getting both sides on the right path to a new CBA and the start of the 2012-2013 season.

One of those players that will be in attendance today will be Jonathan Toews.  He might as well just put on the C for the entire group and be the leader in this discussion today.  Hopefully he hasn’t drank too much Donald Fehr Kool-Aid when he shows up and has more of an open mind and willingness to be flexible and get this lockout in the rear view mirror.  What a way to add to his legacy than to be at the podium in a week or so at a news conference talking about today as the day that the lockout began to crumble.

It could be a double edge sword though if the meeting like the ones with the Federal Mediator goes nowhere.  Toews could be looked at in disgust as just a puppet of the NHLPA with no ability to make changes and move from the stubborn stance it is taking.  This lockout not only hurts their wallets, but it hurts a lot of people from concession workers to ticket takers to people that park cars that count on these games for their income.  Toews cannot be just a mouth piece for Donald Fehr today but be the leader that he has become within the Chicago Blackhawks organization.

Will today be a day to remember or just another of the past 80ish days of this lockout that leaves no end in site. Our Captain will have a major say in the outcome.  Captain Serious help…..
