On this date in Chicago Blackhawks history,

On January 5, 2010 at a sold out United Center the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-1.

In his first season with the Hawks Marian Hossa started putting his stamp on the season with his second consecutive 2nd goal game this time it was against the Wild. After the victory the Hawks were 30-10-4 with the best record in the NHL. They also had parlayed the great home crowd into an NHL best home record of 20-4-1.  The Hawks wouldn’t end up with the best record in te NHL but they did hoist the Cup for the first time in 49 years at the end of the season.

Oh by the way the Hawks defense which didn’t give up many shots on goal in the 2009-2010 season and only gave up 19 shots on this night against Cristobal Huet.  Huet only gave up one goal in the victory.  One of the unsung hero’s of the season John Madden scored the fist goal of the night for the Hawks.

The only silver lining of the lockout if a season does get to be played is that it gave Hossa enough time to rest and heal from his season ending concussion, now NHL just …………

END the Lockout!!
